Comics Bingo with G.B. Tran - Believer Magazine

Create fun, unexpected drawing prompts for a game of comics bingo with G.B. Tran. You can pick up a copy of G.B.’s book Vietnamerica from our friends at Bookshop, where proceeds will help benefit The Believer and independent bookstores.

Watch the video of the livestream below, and follow these steps to create your own comics bingo board.

For this workshop, you will need a few sheets of paper and something to write/draw with.

To make your own comics bingo board:

Step 1: Generate a list of sixteen places.

Step 2: Generate a list of sixteen concrete nouns.

Step 3: Generate a list of sixteen active verbs ending in -ing.

Step 4: On a new piece of paper, draw a 4×4 grid, with each square being just large enough to write three lines of text inside it.

Step 5: Choose one place, one noun, and one verb from the lists at random. These are your drawing prompts. Everyone playing must write these three things inside one random square on their grid.

Step 6: Continue this process until all your squares are filled and you’ve used everything from your lists.

To play comics bingo:

Step 1: Have someone choose a prompt at random (e.g. someone could number their grid 1-16 and then use a random number generator to choose).

Step 2: Set a timer for three minutes. Everyone has that long to draw a comic based on the prompt.

Step 3: Draw an x through the square with the prompt written in it once you’re done drawing.

Step 4: Continue this process until someone calls bingo.

Note: you cannot call bingo until you have finished drawing.

We’d love to see your comics bingo drawings! Post it to social and tag @believermag and @fatherhoodsurvivalguide.

This workshop was supported in part by Zappos.
